    I mean, it’s the truth. The taliban are the ones in charge of Afghanistan, no matter how much wishful thinking we’re doing on our side.

    Unsurprising. The chance of there being another government in Afghanistan in the near future is very low.

    More concerning is that the Taliban has been involved in selling off long-term contracts at dirt-cheap costs to fuel their oppressive regime for a few more years. Not actually faulting China for this, but it’s gonna hurt Afghanistan in the long run when the Taliban collapses and those contracts are still in place.

    China is going to play them like a fiddle, they’ll basically own that country within 20 years. The Taliban in no way is sophisticated enough to deal with this.

      I mean, it’s either us or the chinese, so I highly suspect they care much, as if they even have much of a choice. And we’re clearly not getting the contract after the last two decades of presence we’ve had there.
