@arstechnica@mastodon.social that’s funny. I wonder how they’re going to differentiate between EU citizens that are protected by GDPR. just because they posted in the US doesn’t mean they’re exempt from EU protections.

also, if reddit even attempts to share that information and EU courts find out both reddit and the studios will be in the hottest pot of water they’ve ever been in.

@arstechnica@mastodon.social If they’re that worried about their content being stolen they can probably start with the folks at 3180 18th Street San Francisco, California, 94110.

@arstechnica@mastodon.social I would not count on Reddit holding out very long on actually protecting its users. Obviously this is just for show and if it comes down to it they’ll hand over the information without fuss if the show becomes too inconvenient.

@arstechnica@mastodon.social This is one of those cases where I applaud a company I otherwise loathe. Thanks, Reddit!

@arstechnica@mastodon.social piracy is moral and we should all do it. Suck it corporate vultures.

@arstechnica@mastodon.social What would discussing piracy prove, anyway? Nothing. And 99% of people discussing piracy on Reddit are going to live at a data center. I think this is all they actually hoped to accomplish - try to scare people who are talking about piracy. They don’t and won’t have the resources to take that information and figure out if anyone is breaking a law.

Another reason why one should always use a “good”VPN headquartered outside US jurisdiction. Also use an alias instead of one’s email whenever possible.

@arstechnica@mastodon.social Everybody’s in your face telling you what to do, nowadays. You get power and clout; you tell people to jump and expect them to do it.

    People are pathetic. Myself, included.

  • @arstechnica@mastodon.social that’s a broad reach, in the filing because I looked, the rationale is they, the Production companies ‘assumed’ and the Plaintiffs ‘speculate’ they did it.
So using that logic, if I discussed murder on a forum, they could speculate I’ve committed murder, if they get their way. They can also not confirm it’s ’the only way’ to confirm they did it, and yet they act like it’s the golden ticket.
    This is messed up.
