It’s only been an enormous joke since immediately after it was announced…so this is not much of a surprise.
Corrosion or patina?
Nothing new, and it might also have nothing to do with having stainless steel on sight… The Model 3 has the same exact warnings, at least the ones sold in Europe do.
My Subaru has similar warnings in its manual.
To help prevent corrosion Wash the vehicle regularly to prevent corrosion of the body and suspension components. Also, wash the vehicle promptly after driving on any of the following surfaces. . roads that have been salted to prevent them from freezing in winter . mud, sand, or gravel . coastal roads
So let’s write the headline:
Subaru: You’ll Have to Wipe Dirt off your Crosstrek ASAP to avoid Corrosion
Look, I did a journalism!
it seems they didn’t coat the stainless steel with paint, which is a mistake and that’s why there’s this news article.
Are you saying that the Model 3 is unpainted?
Well, it is, and it’s painted in organic paint, which is much more delicate than traditional paints, and that’s why that statement is also found in Model 3’s user manuals as well.
While I don’t have anything to quote, I am wondering if perhaps the Cybertruck actually does have a layer of organic paint which is either transparent or just stainless-steel colored.
Ps. This is not the hill I’ll die on. I am not much of a Tesla fan and my experience about it comes from a close friend of mine’s Model 3. I only wanted to make it clear that this is not a Cybertruck exclusive warning and thus I believe it has nothing to do with the stainless steel being exposed.
it’s in the second line of the article:
Tesla chose to leave its stainless steel exterior unpainted.
That’s right, but as I said, I’m not much of a Tesla fan, which is why I don’t really care much for that, and I don’t believe I’ll see many CTs in Europe anyways.
No matter what, my point still stands, that warning has been around for a while on Model 3’s.
Every car I have ever owned has had paint that would get damaged by bird poop and insects, which could lead to sheet metal corrosion if not wiped away quickly.
What even is journalism.
at least the frame was protected by paint. Cybertruck doesn’t have paint. here is another article.
here is another article.
This article is about cybertrucks next to helipads? And that this setup was apparently for proving out the stainless steel? And that It looks good for durability?
From the article:
This is just one instance showing how the Cybertruck’s stainless steel exoskeleton is a practical choice for a rugged vehicle that’s supposed to endure off-road situations.
I mean I get the article’s point, there are still deloreans tooling around with their original sheetmetal and it’s been 40 years.
My friend, ultimately this is a nothing burger. Anyone who has actually owned a car knows it’s bad news if you don’t remove bird poop promptly. There is no article needed for this, save for getting ad revenue from the credulous.
Guère étonnant de la part de Tesla x)
