Ehhhh… It’s high budget for sure, but I’m just not convinced live action avatar will ever be good. They could’ve remastered the cartoon with a fraction of the budget.

Not sure how they can top the original movie. Why try to do better then a masterpiece?

Why does Hollywood continue to remake movies? because they didn’t ruin it the first time

      The Water of the Ocean.

4 different ways to pronounce Avatar.

      Truly a masterpiece.

I’m okay with this, but I also was okay with cowboy bebop live action lol

I hope everyone remembers that we don’t need a copy of the original animation. We already have the original animation and trying to copy it in another medium usually is just inferior in every way

Let this be a new thing, an opportunity for a new audience to be reached with a new thing. I can always go back and watch the animation whenever I want.

If you want something new, make something new. Otherwise this is just a marketing product repackaging peoples childhoods and trying to sell it back to them.

I don’t care? If it’s fun, and more people get to enjoy it, why is that bad? Let them play again in the same sandbox. It’s bad when an industry becomes too reliant on that type of media, and it’s bad when the content is, you know, bad, like the movie. But if it’s good content then why get a bug in your ass over some economic principle?

There’s room in the world for all of these things. You can comment on the industry trend without shitting on a specific product that isn’t even out yet

Definitely agree with you. If anything, that trailer just made me want to watch the original show again!

Honestly, I think this looks well done and I’m excited to watch it! It may not be the original and it may be minorly unnecessary, but it looks done with love and reverence.

It will reach a new audience who wouldn’t watch the original because it’s a cartoon, and that’s great!

They mostly have the look down. The only one that looks out of place is King Bumi, as he definitely just looks like a young guy in old man makeup. But we didn’t get to see much.

The other worry is the acting and storytelling. Some of the line delivery seems a bit wooden, and it’s tough to see if it will come close to the humor and heart of the original.

Pretty clear they are killing The Great Divide, Bato of the Water Tribe (except for June), and combining The Northern Air Temple somehow into Omashu. They also seem to be adding the air nomad genocide and moving The Cave of Two Lovers to season 1. It also looks like they are going to try and flesh out Zuko’s relationship with Azula and Ozai more

At least they know how to say Aang and the bending doesn’t look stupid.

Right? I’m cautiously optimistic. The fire bending looked really cool, and it seems like they kept Sokka’s dry quippiness.

Aaaw, that theme music always gets me. I’m kinda intrigued, I love the opportunity to see again these characters and to stay with them for some more time, but also I don’t know if I should really put my trust on Netflix

Nice, I don’t have to crosspost it from [email protected] to here.

Some of the scenes in this trailer are remarkably close to the animated series. The heart seems to be in there. Whether it works as a whole package will need to be seen…

My 8yo gave her seal of approval after seeing Aang in Avatar state, saying, ‘this looks a lot better than that other dumb movie we watched long back (the avatar state eyes on that movie was super weird)’

    For reference:

Sounds like they specifically lingered on it a couple of times. This one looks like it’s going to just kind of be a compressed version of the cartoon, which could be a lot worse, as we all know. Hopefully it’s respectful and mostly consistent, and people who find they just need to know more can go back and watch the Nick series. Even if that leaves it sort of “slight” for those already invested, it will have value. Fingers crossed.

I wish they would stop. I’m not even an Avatar fan, but I can see what they’re doing here. They’re Dragonballing it.
