    It’s not a great game.

I consider myself a huge fan of SG, so I’m an edge case of a customer who would try it regardless of quality. I’m also a huge fan of Commandos games, I’ve played all of the classic run, plus fan mods that add extremely hard levels.

Stargate Timekeepers, being a mix of these two things, should be great for me. Unfortunately, the level design is bad, the lore accuracy is bad, the game is full of glitches, it was delayed over a year and they’ve only released half of the game, and it’s generally an unpolished not-that-fun game. I feel I’m getting more out of it than most, and even I am a bit disappointed. You are not really led into situations to utilize the characters’ special abilities, instead the character just start saying “Hey team-mate, you’ve been using that move a lot. Why don’t you try something else?”. But you don’t need to try something else. You can just punch and bind most of the enemies. So many of them are just facing the wall with no other enemy guarding them.

Then, ‘Timekeepers’? I’m half way through (level 7) the first half, and there has been no reference to the title of Timekeepers. I assumed the premise of the game would involve time travel, and yet I’m many hours in and not a single clue that hints it.

    Not great at all.

This was the review I was looking for. I might pick the game up on sale at this point. Would it be worth a GOG buy at some point?

I got it on gog because I think this game might fall into the same situation the other attempts at Stargate video games did: there will be an IP dispute and it will be removed from sale, and development stopped. GOG gives out a drm-free copy that you can keep.

I’m not convinced the second half will be released this April, if at all. It’s clear that they needed to start sales to afford the costs of finishing the delayed product. The interesting situation they have found themselves in is that they’ve already charged for the full product, so if they don’t deliver they are liable for refunds, perhaps.

My opinion: if you’re a die hard fan, give it a go, but don’t expect it to match the lore of the show, and don’t expect it to be a fun game. It feels like something that started as a star wars game that had to change to a Stargate game mid production, and all the details are awkwardly crammed into gaps where they don’t belong.
