‘A wake up call for opponents of net zero’: Government predicts gas power will be three times more expensive than renewables by 2025::undefined
However, previous analysis from the CCC and others have suggested grid balancing costs would only add £10 to £20MWh to renewables costs, meaning they would still enjoy a significant cost advantage over gas fired power plants.
I really think the self feeding cycle if renewables is in full swing now and cannot be stopped only delayed.
The UK is building lots of interconnectors with other countries to help balance the grid.
More still can be done though. The UK needs to push faster on heat pumps, insulation, induction hobs.
I also don’t see much from the government in flexible demand. Which would be more electric car chargers at work, supermarkets etc. V2G. Flexible washing machines, driers. Hot water storage, heat storage.
Who knows maybe electricity will be so cheap it’s better to waste it than to build more demand. Though we need some for sure.
