Love the subhead:
A DRM come true
Why would any game dev care about the platform you play on as long as you purchased the game?
I imagine they care about the players who didn’t, who, let’s be real here, make up the majority of players on emulators.
I’m one of the very few who dump my own roms and use as a sorta cross platform game save.
This looks like it was done mostly to stop emulating on PC. I’m curious what the performance hit will be.
And I agree with you, denuvo is silly
Let’s be real, the devs of switch emulators will get past whatever shit they put in. Denuvo isn’t gonna harm switch games nearly as bad as PC games
Edit: Worse case it just need a more unique console identification which might curve piracy but not stop legit emulation
While everything is crackable, if it’s anything like Denuvo DRM for PC, it can take weeks or months on a per-game basis until cracked ROMs of games become available.
Not many people actively crack games utilizing Denuvo DRM, and some year-old games are still uncracked.
We will need to see how it works, but the software checks in theory will be hardware based, so if the yuzu or ryujinx devs figure it out we should be good. Roms will still popup quick
But since this is official and announced protection…Yuzu could get sued by Denuvo or Nintendo for bypassing DRM
If devs implement this under the pretense of being a “lost sale” that’s just saddening… there is no pirate that will go and blow 300 bucks on a Switch and 100 bucks on a game just for the ability to play it on a specific piece of hardware.
IMO this only hurts legitimate customers as DRM usually does, such as those with a switch + game already, and want to play it on their Steam Deck
Ah, lovely. Can’t wait to see the performance of future switch games that utilize this…
Sounds like this is in preparation for the new switch
Ima emulate it with wine
