There is a discussion on Hacker News, but feel free to comment here as well.
… how could it have taken 9 hours to get a tow truck out there 0.o
…or to simply push it to the side? One minute?
Can you get the car in neutral once it dies in gear?
The article says the electric ebrake can’t be disabled if there’s no power, so they couldn’t push it. I guess it automatically activates when the car is turned off? 9 hours to get a tow truck is still weird though.
I’m guessing they needed a tow truck that could lift the car in the air and then onto a platform, or one with wheel dollies.
I’d prefer them to just drag that hunk of garbage out of the way, in gear and brakes on.
In other news. People have become too fucking stupid and lazy to move a car 4 feet.
It’s says in the article the handbrake automatically engages when it dies. So it’s essentially pushes a multi tonne dead weight.
Not that it explains what took so long for it to be moved.
Though if memory serves Tesla are a bit funny with this sort of thing… If it (as the article suggests) was a problem with the car… Tesla basically say if someone else does anything to the car, the warranty is void, but if “we” do it we’ll recover it free.
I’m surprised no one tried bouncing it out of the way. I know that’s what the fire brigade sometimes have to do if a car is blocking them getting to an emergency.
