It’s All in The Feet
It is amazing just how small the feet of the ruby throated hummingbird (Archilochus colubris) are. These little birds are gone from here now, undoubtably headed south over the Gulf of Mexico. These little birds make the trip individually, it is quite a feat, isn’t it?
"The extremely short legs of the Ruby-throated Hummingbird prevent it from walking or hopping. The best it can do is shuffle along a perch. Nevertheless, it scratches its head and neck by raising its foot up and over its wing. " - allaboutbirds.org

The first thing that struck me when I got close enough to our feeder to really see the hummingbirds was how cute their little dangling feet are!
