Huzzah. Can’t wait to try it out.
The long-standing Topological naming problem has finally been addressed thanks to the joint effort and hard work of several developers. Realthunder’s algorithm has been carefully implemented and improved to work in the master version of FreeCAD.
The Align to selection tool was added, making it possible to enter views normal to faces or following edge directions.
This is one of the features from Solidworks that I missed.
The tnp fix in the realthunder branch were good enough to get me to drop solidworks beginning of the year. Rc4 has a general dimension tool in the sketch bench now (maybe it’s always been there) so no more needing to select specific constraints which is nice, and it swaps automatically between part design and sketch benches. I’ve not messed a lot with referenced edges in rc4, the realthunder branch handled them fairly well with some minor readjustment on things like filets and rounds, this is in all though a huge leap forward.

Huge milestone for this project
Finally. It should have been called 1.0 when hello world compiled. We’d have 2.0 now without the fully functional zero point bs versions.
Hopefully it’ll landed in Debian and Nixos soon.
Finally! Can’t wait for my next 3D-printing project!!
Conflabbit, I just installed RC4 on my machine the day before yesterday. Is RC4 any different than the “final” 1.0?
Also: The main downloads page on freecad.org is still serving 0.21.2…
Yeah, it has not yet been released as of this moment… Soon!
1.0 has not been released yet. Maybe it’ll happen this week, but as of this moment, RC4 is available but the actual release does not yet exist. Don’t know why people keep posting and up voting incorrect and easily verifiable information.
Having said that, the release candidates have been great and this will be a great milestone for FreeCAD.
The release page and the download page say 1.0 was release on November 18.
And the commit to remove the RC4 suffix was merged yesterday as well.
Curious. It is imminent, yes, but as of right this moment the download page for me still shows 0.21.2 https://www.freecad.org/downloads.php and release notes go to https://wiki.freecad.org/Release_notes_0.21 and the blog is not updated.
Perhaps it’s an edge cache update that hasn’t happened yet?
Regardless, it’s happening very soon and this is a great thing!
The FreeCAD GitHub page also confirms that, again as of now, 1.0 release is not yet out.
Looks like the builds just finished.
I guess the main website hasn’t been updated but the link in the post is the release notes for 1.0
