  • In many ways democracy is a lie. You still have a system of government that puts a handful of people in fairly powerful positions. These people will always do what is needed to keep the power they have.

For centuries democracy has focused on the elites. They have done a good job of keeping participation low and therefore creating an under informed population. Commonly in the US, you’ll hear phrases like “It doesn’t matter who I vote for.” “My vote doesn’t count.” “They’re all the same.”

When you have a voting populace who has regularly not participated and talk with authority to them, you can get them to buy whatever you’re selling.

  • Who fucking cares? What is it going to do really? There has been so much publicity of their relationship, it doesn’t change anything. Will it result in charges against Trump? Unlikely, the only one I know of who was willing to put herself and her family at risk, is dead (suicide).

His supporters will find a way to excuse anything away. There could be a picture of Trump assaulting a young teen and they would just say it’s not his fault she looked older than she was.

To those in this thread saying anything released shouldn’t be redacted, remember there were victims, this wasn’t just Jeff and Don having a brobait with each other.

I’m sick of the Democrats and their shitty platitudes, because that’s all this is. Demand compassion and due process for the millions being terrified by federally protected kidnappers. Demand that Republicans meet to discuss the phasing out of some of the TPS rules (temporary is in the name and just because there is an EO doesn’t mean there can’t be a law that changes it). Demand that we stop defending the atrocities of megalomaniacs around the world. Demand that the legislative branch takes back the power of the purse and writes laws to affect trade.

Might be the only time I agree with the ball of congealed Cheeto vomit, but why the fuck are we still talking about Epstein?

  • I live in an area where I think the worst drivers in the US live. I absolutely hate people who honk as soon as the light turns green. You don’t know what I can see, you don’t know if it is safe to go. Because sometimes it isn’t. I’ve had to learn to still look both ways after the light turns green because almost once a week (and I only drive 2-4 days most weeks) I see someone completely blow the red going 60 in a 45.

I also blame phones for traffic, because it goes the other way too. Why did you miss that green, because 3 people in front of you were on their phones. I usually give a slow 5 count before giving a beep.

  • Nearly half the population didn’t vote at all. It’s not a small number that would still defend him. Maybe not half, but significant enough. Then you have to wonder, how many active duty personnel didn’t vote for him and where would they stand when the orders were given. Would they commit treason in the eyes of the CIC?

His approval ratings don’t mean a whole lot. We’ve seen how well polls have translated to real results in the last decade. I would also argue that disapproval does not translate to civil disobedience.

  • 154 million people voted in 2024. That’s a hair over 65% of the voting agreed population. Over half of those people supported this shit stain, and even if they disagree with him on some things now, most will still support and defend him.

My personal objections to participating in a armed resistance aside. No one is looking to organize an armed resistance as far as I’m aware and the concept of organizing such a resistance seems nearly impossible for many reasons.

I’ve seen a few reports of protesters making things more difficult for ICE, but that’s about the most resistance I’ve seen. I’m starting to see why reasonable Germans didn’t rise up, it’s not that they agreed or didn’t want to, it’s difficult to organize a resistance. There needs to be a clear leader, good communication channels, a way to vet those who join, and anything else a military operation needs. And even then, you’d be going up against over half the population and the armed forces. And it would be giving a reason for them to use full military force against the citizens.

There is no good end to this, there is no way to stop this from continuing. I think a lot of people are counting on midterms to bring a peaceful end to this nightmare, I doubt we will have that chance and even if we do, the outcome will not be enough to swing the power.

    We’re fucked.

  • I’ve come to the realization, at least where I live, that a hell of a lot of accidents are prevented because of drivers who are actually aware and safe. This goes a bit beyond defensive driving IMO. I’m talking flat out accident avoidable. There is an entire class of drivers who are not even aware of the accidents they have almost caused because someone else managed to avoid their stupid driving.

The majority of accidents that are likely to happen with these robocoffins will be single car or robocoffin meets robocoffin. The numbers on safety after a year will be acceptable because non accident causing error prone driving is not reported in any official capacity.

I still maintain that the only safe way to have autonomous vehicles on the road is if they do not share the road with human drivers and have an open standard for communicating with other autonomous cars.
