One of the concerns I would have with custom ROMs for TVs is that I think a lot of the image processing magic that makes the image look good on these high end displays is done in some proprietary method that the custom ROM wouldn’t be able to use. Either in software or in hardware.

The magic of the high end TVs isn’t actually in the panel itself as much as in the driving of the panel.

My Mazda has the same controls and I’ve never really felt like they’re hard to find. The button layout makes a lot of sense and the large center wheel is easy to find so you can use it as a reference point to find the other buttons easily (I pretty much just use the home and music buttons and that volume knob).

Really think about what action (or inaction) does for the things that matter to you. One of the options maybe has better outcomes on some other things you care about.

Another option has bad outcomes in almost everything you care about, plus maybe even a worse outcome to your most important thing.

It’s part of felony murder but not the whole thing. The other parts of felony murder are if your accomplice intentionally kills someone or the death of someone is caused without intent (such as hitting a pedestrian while fleeing).

I could make the argument that by participating in a felony, accomplices are accepting the inherent risk, so if they happen to get hurt or killed that’s on them and shouldn’t be considered felony murder.

So let’s be clear here, he was charged with felony murder of his accomplice in a dangerous felony. Felony murder is the crime of killing of a person in the commission of a dangerous crime.

It’s pretty debatable if it makes sense to charge someone for felony murder if they were an accomplice, but that’s a different discussion than the framing of “charged for a murder committed by cops”. The cops didn’t murder this guy, it seems pretty clear that the cops acted in self defense here. So it’s not like they transferred the “blame” as it were from murderous cops to an innocent kid.

The reason felony murder exists is that even if there was no actual intent to kill, the risk of death during a dangerous crime is so high it becomes reckless. There’s a similar crime of depraved heart murder where the act that causes the death of someone is so dangerous that one could only do it if they had no concern of killing someone. You go into a felony knowing someone could get hurt or killed and do it anyway, so you are responsible for the consequences whether you “pulled the trigger” or not. A more common example would be if you and a buddy are robbing a bank and your buddy kills a teller or a cop, you get charged with felony murder.

I get why ISP provided routers and some brands of mesh router would collect and sell data but what is it about “mesh” that is particularly bad here? I have a cheap TP Link router that is apparently mesh compatible but it seems like a traditional router in all the other way. Should I be concerned?

That’s a really hopeful reading of that chart. What I see in that chart is that even a year or two of falling emissions could quickly be wiped away. Just look at 2022.

Unfortunately we have to do both. We need big industry to reduce but we also need a massive change in our behaviors. Industry must be forced to make these changes because they are purely profit driven and don’t take into account 2nd order costs of their actions. People can make choices to improve their personal impact on the environment, and every little bit counts.

For example, if everyone who can uses more public and active transportation, then that leaves more capacity for those who can’t. Making less cars is better than making more EVs. Personal transport is a significant source of pollution even if it’s not close to the biggest.

By definition conservatism and liberalism are opposite. However, modern Conservatives in America are largely Neoliberals in terms of most policies except stuff like religion, sex, and race.

The local version of this in southern California is the Banh Mi, a Vietnamese sandwich on a baguette. Less than 10 years ago you could get a good banh mi for 3 or 4 bucks, and these days even the cheapest I’ve seen are $6.50 and many places are charging over $10 for this perfect sandwich. At least double in under 10 years :(

That’s not really true. Mostly it’s him struggling to describe all the ways that he’s been one of the better progressive presidents despite having a completely non functional congress and outright hostile court. The only message that sticks is how awful Trump is because it’s easy to say and understand, and is obviously true to some and obviously false to others.

Looking at the datasheet and pictures I think the heatsink is just aluminum. Looks like an extrusion (which means it’s the same shape over the full length) with a solid center that they machine down in the middle area to mount the LEDs. The large amount of material and good conduction of the aluminum will absorb and distribute the heat without needing water cooling or heat pipes.

These LEDs use up to 200W and the heatsink on here probably weighs more than 10x as much as a heatsink on a 500+W graphics card. Watercooling and heat pipes are necessary when you need to get a lot of heat out with a minimum amount of material, such as for cars and home computers. Costs more than a big block of aluminum but the you don’t need to move that much wieght around. For a light like this, the extra weight and space it takes up doesn’t matter.
