Fun, but expensive! I picked it up on a side street near Town Centre Park, rode it down to Guildford, over to Johnson, then up to Walton. I’m a big guy (~250 pounds) and it struggled to climb Johnson…but without the assist I never would have made it.
The helmet was small for my big head, but it worked. It took me a few tries to scan the QR code and start riding. I’m not sure if that was my phone or the app’s fault.
10 minute ride: $5.50, minus a $0.50 coupon for watching the safety video.
Overall, it’s good for a quick one-way trip, maybe to the grocery store then transit or Uber on the way back with bags.
ok i literally just saw scotters sitting on the side of the street the other day, do we have scooters and ebikes around town now? when did this happen?!
Just very recently! The orange ones are Neuron, the white and green ones are Lime.
I’ve only tried Neuron, but both ebikes and scooters. I’ve honestly been tempted to get a monthly pass to use them more.
My only concern is car drivers. I was crossing Guildford on a scooter the day before yesterday and a car turned right into the crosswalk while the walk signal was going. It would have been the same problem for walking pedestrians though.
Do they offer a monthly pass for the ebikes? I know they do for their escooters around here, and it is actually quite reasonably priced.
Looks like yes, and prices are really good. https://www.rideneuron.com/canada/?cn-reloaded=1
Seems to be a lot of fragmentation in the ebike rental market. Coquitlam has Neuron, Vancouver has Mobi, North Van is Lime, Whistler is Evolve - New West is asking for public input before it selects a vendor, not sure about any other municipalities.
This seems like a bad thing - sure I guess they’re marketing them for short trips but ebikes are so much fun that I think yes you might want to take your rental bike from Coquitlam into Vancouver, drop it there, spend the day, then pick up another one for the ride home… which of course you can’t if they’re all on different systems.
The casual-use rates ($1.19 unlocking + $0.39/min) don’t seem a million miles off Evo car rates.
Coquitlam has Lime as well. Competition is a risk for them, but gets us better prices and services overall.
