Or more like under new management.

After a while of being dead due to the only moderation here being overburdened instance admins, leading to the handful of people contributing here giving up, we can rejoice as now we’ve moved on to the next worst option for moderation, Me!

I hope to make this a community where we can have decent discussions, centered around the political right, in a manner that’s hopefully less brain melting than the typical front page content here or back on reddit.

But what does this mean for you, the person still reading this train wreck of a post? well, thanks for hypothetically asking. It really helped move this post along. The short of it is, there are going to be rules now. like it or not, thems the shakes. so then what are these rules, you conveniently ask in order to make this bit keep on going past its expiration date?

well, first off, we gotta follow the instance rules. They pay the bills that keep these 1s and 0s flowing to your screen, so we have to listen to what they say. For those of you browsing from somewhere inconvenient to check the sidebar here, the rules are pasted below:

-Be respectful. Everyone should feel welcome here.
-No bigotry - including racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, or xenophobia.
-No Ads / Spamming.
-No pornography.

Beyond that, I aim to run things on a system closer to a bro code than a hard and fast set of rules.

I hope to make this a community where we can have decent discussions, centered around the political right

To that end, the number one thing I want to enforce is good faith. if you’re unsure, take a moment before posting that comment, and ask yourself, what kind of response would you want someone who disagrees with you have to it. if the answer isn’t “they can express why they believe otherwise” there’s a good chance that you’re on the wrong track.

beyond that, try and keep things on topic. that should be obvious, but it merits saying. it should be at least somewhat apparent why you’ve chosen to post here. if not, I may ask you to either post elsewhere, or edit such that the tie is more clear. nobody here is a mind reader (yet). what may be obvious to you is going to require scooby and the gang to unmask it for someone else.

and that’s really all i have to say for now. if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Regardless of how this pans out, I do appreciate the writing style.

No bigotry - including racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, or xenophobia.

Just to pick the least ambiguous example - “no transphobia” does imply discussion about conservatives, not necessarily among conservatives. Vanishingly few American Republicans could state their official platform without running afoul of that rule. In my state of Florida, very explicitly so.

I hope that we can at least be able to discuss topics like gender, though only the admins know exactly where their own line in the sand is for respectful disagreement vs bigotry. @imaqtpie@sh.itjust.works summoning an admin for a second opinion and some clarification here.

depend on how that pans out, i may go the route many communities back on reddit did with just a blanket ban on the topic if the admins aren’t in favor of a lot of leeway, since there’s little value in discussion that can’t be had without people catching bans. i hope that since the admins here are down to earth and not just on whatever powertrip the reddit ones are, we don’t need to resort to more censorship than needed, but I’ve run communities under that standard before, so it wouldn’t be a first on my end.

If people make transphobic comments and posts, they will be removed. If such behavior becomes common and recurrent, it may be necessary to institute some kind of blanket ban on the topic of gender in this community. Hopefully people will be mature and respectful and that won’t be necessary.

i guess I’d just like to know your line as for what actually constitutes transphobia since it gets thrown around a lot for nearly everything. for instance, would it be considered transphobic to voice opposition to medical transitioning for minors?

That depends on how the opposition is voiced. My advice would be to tread lightly around gender issues, as a general rule of thumb. It seems like a topic that is likely to bring this community unwanted negative attention, pragmatically speaking.

Everything will be dealt with on a case by case basis, because context is important.

Downvoters are invited to opine as clearly as possible and see what happens.

Gender isn’t a switch you flip on at 18. Whatever horror stories you’ve been told about lifelong effects from hormones during puberty - they’re already getting hormones during puberty. That’s what puberty is. Lifelong effects are what therapeutic medicine prevents.

Just want to mention that there’s a difference between conservatism and libertarianism and distrust of the government so it would be nice if the Gadsden flag was reserved for libertarian communities.

Unless this community is simply named wrong and the goal is to reach libertarian conspirationists without making it obvious…
