I’ve opened up my own personal instance hosted on my web server for people to join.

Ay first it was just an alternative for myself to lemmy.world to take some of the load off, but I’ve decided that it would make good sense to make it available to others as well for the same reasons.

So my question at last, is there a community or similar where I can share my instance with others?

This is more of a support question, related to using Lemmy. Please see the sidebar for a list of communities that offer support. Removing under rule #3.

They’re both for communities. OP is asking about instances (ie. his server)

I think it’d make sense to roll “new instances” into “new communities”. Why split the two? A simple policy of making it clear in the title what kind of entity your promoting/posting should suffice.

The reality is that the line between a community and an instance is fuzzy, at best:

        • Both instances and communities have specific moderation policies and decisions to make, with communities being subject to those of the instance they belong to.
        • As a community belongs to an instance, ensuring some degree of resonance in interests and moderation policies makes a lot of sense.
        • This is especially so given that the life of a community is bound to the instance it’s on. If the instance dies so does the community.
        • Instances that aren’t giant generalist instances can easily have some sort of topic of focus just like a community.
