The Army Is Refusing To Return The Remains Of 2 Native Boys

The Winnebago have sued to force the military to comply with a longstanding law requiring the U.S. government to return Native human remains to their tribes.

The two Winnebago boys were sent to the BIA’s Carlisle Indian Industrial School in Pennsylvania in 1895. Both had died by 1899. The Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act of 1990 requires that remains be returned within 90 days of a request.
