And you could ask for a spoiler free review of an old movie or series or questions about it . Here eveeything like that gets downvoated to hell , doesn’t exist or doesn’t get much reach . I do wish we could intime have things like that .

Yeah but we’re not talking about niche interests subs, we’re talking about discussions of movies and stuff. They’re really basic, really standard, and really popular things for an internet forum to have. They were a norm long before Digg and Reddit, and they were routinely some of the most trafficked and active posts on Reddit.
You would think that the first communities and the first norms to really take root and grow here would be the most basic. It’s kind of weird how after 7 months there just hasn’t been any real establishment of them.
There was a community like this on another instance with a focus on film/tv called Lemmy.film that had more traction, but unfortunately it was among those early instances that spun up only to abruptly fall away at some point.
If I’m not mistaken I think this community may have been created in response to its loss, but it hasn’t managed to get as much activity for whatever reason. Prior to the Lemmy.film instance going away, its version of this community had around five thousand subscribers.
I think what also may not help is that this community is on Lemm.ee which has stricter limits on media upload sizes, which may get in the way of sharing memes/clips from shows/movies they’re enjoying, if not from other instances then certainly from those on Lemm.ee itself.
That is correct, but the first community was created was created during the peak of Lemmy users post Reddit exodus, we are now much less on Lemmy as a whole. [email protected] is still the most active movie community in the whole of Lemmy.
The media restriction might play a role, but I don’t remember that many videos upload from the previous version. What was there though, is the discussion threads that we are discussing here. I opened a discussion on them this morning but got that thread removed (see below). That’s a bit concerning to be honest.
Interesting to note: if you review the mod log, that’s not the first time either. For some reason, a prior meta post three months ago was also removed, as well as an attempt at a discussion thread. Although oddly in both cases they were restored, but looking at them I don’t see any explanations provided, and incidentally they were both from you, I think.
Edit: supposing a discussion doesn’t help here, it may be wise to try to create another community for the same purpose but with clearer rules and moderation. 🤷♀️ Seems to be the natural way of things with the internet.
I’ll give it a last try today, let’s see how it goes
yeah, it feels like people here literally only watch star trek. recently i was in a star trek thread where someone asked for any sci-fi that wasn’t brain dead, other than star trek. out of like 10 replied i was the only one to actually give recommendations.
It’s because lemmy is just 50% of the worst possible political takes, star trek and boomer memes.
