I am only about 2 weeks in, but I feel quite disheartened with Indonesian. There are very few resources, and some like Pimsleur, Duolingo feel like a bit of a waste of time given that there are so many dialects of the language.

Indonesians speak very quickly, the words are informal and are completely different to the ‘formal’ versions. It makes me feel like I will never be able to understand it in conversation.

I’ve learned Spanish before and I know how hard learning a language can be, but this feels different. It feels like you need to learn two different languages, with little effective resources.

Has any English speaker got any words of encouragement for me and maybe some tips for getting into the swing of things? I feel like I’m bouncing between Duolingo, pimsleur, hello talk and YouTube comprehensible input (of which there are about 10 videos)
