Looks pretty similar to the Scion xD from a few years back. I feel like Toyota really dropped the ball by giving up on that product line rather than converting it into their electric line. Scion was designed to appeal to a younger market and they are who is going to buy low cost electric cars.
Kinda just looks like a Chevy Bolt
And if GM doesn’t turn around and refresh the Bolt, then Byd is going to eat their market share for lunch. The Equinox EV was not a good replacement.
It’s discontinued. They fucked up.
Too bad neither of them have rabid fans like pokemon that will overlay the 3d model and try to claim they stole the design

You’re probably right. It’s really surprised and unimpressed me me that Toyota has taken such an anti-electric stance. They should have been ahead of the curve, but instead, they’ve lobbied the governments of every country to not shift to EVs. Screw those guys.
There are going to be a lot of bloody noses and some outright deaths in the auto market within the next decade. Japanese manufacturers better shape up soon or else they’re going to be reduced to regional manufacturers. Nissan was an early leader, but has fallen behind, the rest aren’t even trying yet.
Japanese manufacturers better shape up soon
I’m still waiting on plug in hybrid Subarus. I think the hybrid Crosstrek is their only option for that and it’s bloody expensive.
One of my friends bought a Ford Maverick (pickup) hybrid, and the damn thing gets 10 better mpg than a Subaru Outback…

This is often the problem with hybrids. You’ll really drive it long enough for it to make sense.
I’ve done the math on several different models and assuming your drive as much as the typical American it can take 10+ years.
“This imported Seagull wasn’t made to pass U.S. crash standards”
Yeah. That’s my biggest question mark with these BYDs. Oh they’re made dirt cheap in unregulated markets? Definitely going to see some Li-Ion explosions in the near future.
Literally 4 out of the 10 safest family cars of 2023 according to EURO NCAP is a BYD
Yeah, that would never happen in well-regulated markets like South Korea and the United States /s
AFAICT this this is an LFP battery and some rumors say it will be the first to sell with a sodium ion for BYD. Both are significantly safer than LiOn
and 11 grand doesnt include the cost of trying to import one, either.

Right. But bringing it over to the US would also mean the manufacturer would need to import it from wherever they’re making them. which also would raise the price.

Americans love to buy cheap Chinese stuff, I bet these BYD cars will succeed… the only thing it’s they have to pay double at Amazon or triple if it’s Apple brand.
Cheap not equal to bad quality, just equal to production cost/sale price.
Not necessarily. Tesla still has massive profit margins on every model. They have a lot of wiggle room on price if competition ever arrives.
