My previous phone’s charge port finally went kaput so I had to get something new. The best option I had was a Pixel 8 or 8 Pro. I went with the 8 since it looked like the only major difference other than price was the cameras, and I don’t take a lot of pictures.

  1. It’s half the size of my previous phone. I’m a big guy and I like big phones, especially of the phablet variety. This thing feels like it’s made for children.
  2. Because it’s a carrier branded device, I can’t actually install the custom OS I wanted to because the option for OEM Unlock is grayed out. Which wouldn’t be a surprise had this information been front and center on Graphene or Lineage’s supported phone page and not half way through the instructions for install.
  3. Fucker has ads!
  4. Don’t know what to do with my 2TB sd card since absolutely nothing available had an SD slot.

I’m so sick of these closed down bastards. I wanna be able to build my own like I would a PC 😩

After having 4 Pixels in a row, got one of these last month. You may dig it.

Couldn’t get Verizon to activate it so I changed carriers after 16+ years. T-Mobile, despite advertising support, took some work to get it going. But they got it!

It is a BEAST. Ran it for 3-weeks and not sure it dropped below 25%. I was going for a month but wanted to use it as a battery bank at camp.

I’ve replaced every battery bank and BT speaker with a waterproof and super tough phone. This one device covers almost all of my camping, kayaking, hiking, etc. needs. Feels like you could punt the thing with steel-toed boots. Drop it in the swamp? Meh. Dive down and grab it.

Thought it had an SD slot, but no. It does sport 2x SIM slots and eSIM capability. Haven’t really pushed the camera tech, but the IR night vision is impressive indoors, maybe 10’ outdoors? Haven’t tried macro either. Wish it had a long exposure night mode. Maybe I haven’t learned it yet?

The hand strap is a great idea. It bolts on firmly, even though it doesn’t seem like it would. Clipped it onto my kayak this week, and even though a storm blew up, no worries it would get loose. The ring is a good size and shape, but the fake leather is garbage, already wearing out. Going to fabricate a new one tonight with better material. All you need is a pair of leather/cloth rivets or a bit of sewing.

And for anyone looking, I got it for about $240 before tax. Had to spend 20-minutes fucking around the site to get all the discounts on one order.
