The thing is, on paper, the game seems awesome: it’s a lot grittier and darker than D3, combat and skills feel weighty, the character and armour design are cool too. However, there’s just not a whole lot keeping you motivated long-term unless you’re a fan of battlepasses as a form of carrot on a stick.

Enemies are way too tanky, you essentially do not feel your character getting stronger because the entire world scales with your level, the skill tree is not as deep as it seems on a surface level…

I could keep going with this. Point is, the amount of monthly recurring players speaks for itself.

Exactly. The level scaling in particular is what killed it for me. What is the point of even having a level up mechanic if your character doesn’t actually get any stronger. Part of the fun of D2 was getting a character to a point where you could just stomp previous areas.

D3 even. Thinking of (Greater) Rifts, going back to previous, easier Rifts after decking your character out in gear was quite fun.

Plus the removal of previous seasons mechanics also makes eternal realm characters weaker than they were when you played them originally, so not really any point to play them again.

me on my way to watch my fifth video essay on why star field is terrible. (it is cathartic to hear people complain about the game when i knew from the start it was doomed to fail.)

From the very release it seemed like it was gonna be a meh game. Not bad, not good, just perfectly ok, and with how many good games exist today, I never saw any point in playing it.

And, yeah, that’s basically what the conclusion ended up being.

It’s nice to have Gamepass on my PC for this reason. I find a ton of stuff I like and I get to try things like starfield and see how they suck and not feel bad about spending 60$ on it

As a Diablo 1, 2 and 3 fan whose distaste towards Blizzard began to slowly grow after they let Activision crawl in through the gutter, I feel this in my soul about everything Blizzard related currently.

I was leaning away from them when they chose China sales over that tournament winner expressing support for the Hong Kong resistance. Then I walked away when the sexual harassment shit came out.

Everything since then has mostly been confirmation that they’ve lost touch entirely with what I used to love about them. The only “good” news I’ve heard about them is that Diablo 4 was briefly looking good until they released the first season and made it clear it was just another cash grab.

I miss the Blizzard that would ban waves of gold farmers and buyers. The Blizzard that hired two prominent StarCraft modders to work on the Warcraft 3 map editor. The Blizzard that didn’t write a tos that says they own anything created with their map maker (“we own all content involved in our platform” should frankly be illegal, it should just be a license to publish that content is implied by uploading it to be published).

But, the sexual harassment stuff showed that even that Blizzard was toxic, though having grown up through that era, I can’t say it surprised me. The only surprising part was how late it went on for.

The only good news I’ve heard about “them” is that former devs founded a new studio and are making Stormgate.

Why play Diablo 4 when Baldur’s Gate 3 is so much better. Plus Diablo 3 has infinite content

Grim Dawn indeed, but I have to say that Last Epoch was great during early access. I am afraid to play 1.0 just in case they nerfed my build to oblivion.

You’re totally right, it’s not good. (I don’t know anything about Diablo 4)

    Isn’t there a free demo?

I liked the atmosphere in the beginning. Reminded me of Diablo 1. But beyond that there doesn’t seem to be a lot of love.

I’m not sure but I loved Diablo 1 and 2, 3 felt like they completely lost their way… I’ve watched some streams and feel 4 is even more watered down…

This games in a weird spot. There not enough to keep hard-core fans going, but players like me who will put in probably less than 200 hours a season, it’s good. It’s still my first season, I’m not level 100, and I’m having a blast leveling, taking on new bosses, and exploring. Works about to cut into my play time a lot more in the next couple of weeks, so I’m already thinking ahead to making a different character next season.
