I’m curious how much of the traffic here is people with religious beliefs.

There’s no rule against it. I just want to understand better. I’m not interested in debating or criticizing anyone’s choice to visit the comm or practice religion.

My questions:

  • Do you practice or otherwise hold some sort of faith? What kind? Is there a comm for it?

  • What are your thoughts on this (c/Atheism) comm? Do you visit because threads appear on your front page, or do you subscribe/visit intentionally? Why do you click on the topics / what kinds of topics do you click on?

  • Do you comment when you read threads here, or are you more of a lurker?

  • Is there anything you would like to express to the members of this community?

Thank you in advance for any responses.

Hi! I also consider myself a somewhat religious atheist, actually. I practice atheistic Buddhist rituals and have periodically attended services. I figured there were others like me, so thank you for responding.

If you don’t mind a few more questions:

    • Does this comm generally align with your religion since you are atheist, or does it appear to be a different sort of atheism? In other words, is there any sort of friction between the two? Do you feel like you fit in with this community?

    • What draws you to practicing atheistic religion?

    • Are there any rituals that you practice, or the frequency of such, that you’d care to share?

    • Do you consider yourself spiritual? Would you care to describe what the word “spiritual” means to you?

Edit: Nice username, btw. Fitting for your persuasion.

      • No friction that I’ve noticed
      • Don’t believe in gods or devils or ghosts or faeries or tree spirits or whatever, but do enjoy standing up to theistic oppression, helping people and the community aspects of religion, using the literary example of Satan (i.e. Paradise Lost, Shelley, Byron etc).
      • There are. We do things like unbaptisms, renaming, confirmations and more personal rituals that are usually practiced on your own…a bit like a Satanic form of Mindfullness.
      • Spiritual to me means things like astrology, crystals, homeopathy - none of which I believe in so no I don’t think of myself as spiritual.
