I’m seeing a lot less communities on this instance when I look at “All”. Are we blocked from several instances, limiting what we can see?

    I finally counted how many communities show up on one page. it is 50. So I only see 54 communities in total when I look at “All” communities from this instance. On lemmy.world there are more than 500 communites that show up in “All” for me (i got tired of clicking after 10 pages)

    The list of communities on the first page on lemmy.world and centennialstate.social are pretty similar. Just for a point of reference, I went to the 5th page on lemmy.world and chose a random community: https://lemmy.world/c/linux_gaming@lemmy.ml

    That community is not showing up for me on this instance.

    another random one: https://lemmy.world/c/humor does not show up in the list of communities for All on this instance.

    @freeskier@centennialstate.social Thank you!

      Ah, I understand now. At least 1 person on this instance has to be subscribed to the community on another instance for it to federate and show up here. All the communities that show up in “All” on this instance are ones that have been subscribed to by at least 1 user on this instance. It is one of the downsides of federation on a small instance, you don’t have a very good “All” to see popular content form communities you aren’t subscribed to.

      There are some tools out there that will force federation with all communities, but the problem with that is it blows up storage requirements.
