IDG why they went with “woke,” they had winners with “Politically Correct,” and “Identity politics.” All kinds of normies bought into that

I really think it being a one syllable quip helped it become the go to buzzword. Woke as it’s used now was first popularized by black people primarily, a lot of the push against ‘woke’ comes from white nationalists (who are ultimately driving most right-wing discourse today) and they love co-opting any term possible.

The one syllable thing is why I also think it’s caught on. SJW was the previous word and it’s largely dead. Too complicated of an acronym and too direct. “Social justice warrior” sounds too cool.

Their goal is to trick normal people who aren’t (currently) rabid fascists into becoming rabid fascists. After a certain amount of time, the average person realized that PC and idpol were just buzzwords for the far right, so they needed something new. Le Wokisme is probably not even going to last a decade.
