Hello, i am just having a look around piefed. I was surprised to find out that my main account has a low rep. It wasn’t easy to find another person with low rep, actually only was able to find one other after briefly looking for it. Now i am kind of offended, haha.

I added some communities. When i added [email protected] and [email protected] the communities were empty. I guess that is as expected, since the federation only starts from now on i guess? For some reason though, when i added [email protected] it shows all the posts, just no comments and no votes. How did this happen? Same for the [email protected] comm.

I wonder how communities end up in topics? Where is this being curated?

It would be nice if there was a language setting for the piefed UI. I guess it is just going by browser default? I could not find an issue regarding this at codeberg. Maybe i just didn’t find the setting and it’s there?

I tried posting this topic a few minutes ago, to the piefed help comm. While viewing the piefed help comm i clicked “create post” and typed along. After sending, i realized that piefed created the post in [email protected]. I think that happened because i had not yet subscribed to the piefed help comm. That was very confusing, pretty sure it also only said “fediverse” in the commuinity field, which is also a bit too little information maybe, could have been [email protected] too. That was a bit awkward.

Piefed looks pretty cool though, i like it!

If you’re referring to the little icon that looks like a loading icon by your username, that’s for indicating new accounts. I think it goes away in a week. The low rep icon is red version of this: ⚠️

Yeah, the blank thing happened when I added new communities too

I’m not sure about the topics, but I think it’s just curated by Rimu, the dev. Though, I though I think it’d be cool if there was a way us users could suggest/nominate communities to be added certain topics.

I know don’t much about the language settings, though I think it’s being worked on. I saw an issue on the repository that Rimu was asking for assistance for translations.

Hey, thanks! I was just about to edit my post to ask if i could help a bit with the the german translation, some of a them are not good. I found the translation issue on codeberg, @[email protected] i cannot dm you because the account is too new. I’d be down to help.

Yeah it’s the red version of that icon for my regular account, that’s why i am offended, haha. Is it not showing the low rep for you? https://piefed.social/u/[email protected]

The blank community thing is understandable, i was just wondering about the non blank ones that i added.

Yeah, it’s showing up for me. My bad, thought you meant the account you made the this post with, I didn’t notice the link 😅 my brain is still waking up. It’s early morning where I’m at. Well, at least it’s not the worst, I’ve seen accounts that had two ⚠️⚠️ by their names

Oh, I also added communities that were non-blank but the comments didn’t show up. It seems random which communities this happens to

Thanks for your offer to help with the translations, I’ll DM you. You can’t initiate chats because you’re new but we can chat if I start it. PieFed detects the preferred language based on your browser setting but it would be good to have a manual override, one day.

PieFed does not have a full record of the votes your regular account has received because no one on piefed.social is subscribed to the groups where you received most of your upvotes. You post in quite specialised groups so the red triangle is not accurate in your case.

Blank new communities happen because the import of old content code has bugs in it which cause the process to fail quite often.

Topics are manually assigned by me. One day it would be nice if the person adding the group for the first time could choose a topic, which would then be reviewed by a topic curator / site admin. But that’s just a dream at the moment.

Sorry about the posting in wrong community bug, that’s a nasty one. The posting content form needs a lot of work.

As you can see, this software is still pretty rough around the edges. Over the last few weeks there has been a big increase in contributions from other developers so we are moving at a good pace but there is a lot to do.
