Even a simple Maverick 88 with a 28" barrel is uniquely painful for me to shoot. It starts leaving bruises after a few birdshot target shooting rounds, something that has never happened with a 7.62mm scout rifle after an hour of dynamic shooting drills. I would never buy a shotgun like that and I can’t imagine him shooting it without it dislocating his shoulder by the end of the magazine.
Push pull technique is where its at. Push forward while pulling it tight to mitigate recoil. I still don’t care for shotguns, you’re far better off with an automatic rifle.
They’re a lot of fun, though. Not the best option as first shotgun you fire as having lots of rounds means you bruise the fuck out of your shoulder because you’re having too much fun to actually shoulder it.

You gotta tuck the fucker into your shoulder hard to make it not hurt after a lot of shots
