I like how the article even says it’s stolen.
There needs to be some communication method that is STRICTLY opt-in. As in: Tanya sends a message to Jim, Tanya isn’t on Jim’s contact list, the message does not arrive. It is not sent to a spam folder. He doesn’t get a notification of “one unauthorized message.” It just says “Send failed.” Where spam, scams etc. are not possible by the very structure of the platform.
There’s a ton of options like that. Two examples:
- signal - requires approval of connection request
- simplex - must scan a QR code for contact, no open directory whatsoever
Both do a good job of solving this problem, the main issue, like everything, is adoption.
