In Denmark, many if not most have transitioned from paraffin candles on the Christmas tree to electric lighting to reduce the fire hazard, but 70 years ago or so, every single Christmas tree was lit with live candles and Georg Jensen would release new candle holders for the Christmas Tree every year

They are still releasing new ones, and they have made electric lights that fit the holders too so it still looks nice.
My parents have a bunch of these with electric lights and have it lit basically the entire time the tree is up. Prettiest night light ever.

The Christmas tree must be lit from it is decorated and until you throw it out.

No one is using electric lights. Also, these candle light holders came out in like the 1990s, far from 70 years ago.

Lots of people use electric lights on their christmas trees. I don’t know when Georg Jensen started their tradition of new annual christmas tree candle holders, but the concept of live candles on the Christmas tree far predates Georg Jensen.

That can’t be true. It’s got to be a (very) small minority of established family households that use electric lighting on their juletræ!

Speak for yourself, you wuss. It’s not Christmas unless you come dangerously close to calling the emergency services at least thrice - an ambulance for overeating, a fire engine for the candles, and a police car for the drunken brawl.

I think, that may be a regional thing. Here in Copenhagen, most of us are able to celebrate things without a need for requesting blue disco lights.
Edit: typo.

Born and raised in Copenhagen, we still attempt to set my parents house on fire every year.

I did say “most of us”. I thought this style of celebration was much more popular in Jylland and Udkantsdanmark, but won’t rule out, that it also occurs in Copenhagen.

It’s funny, because I would have thought it was a province thing to go electric. Not that I inspect a lot of Christmas trees, but I dont think I’ve seen a single one with fake candles. So in the circles I move in its not a thing. And my social bubble us very concentrated around Copenhagen, for better or worse.
It just goes to show how different an experience we can have within a honestly fairly small city.

I have been living in Copenhagen a looooong time 20+ years, never used the (unholy) electric lights.

We still use both. Electric lighting most of the time, but when we do dancing around the tree we light the candles and turn on the electric lights. So cosy!

70? My entire family used real candles when I was a kid, and I’m only 40, since I can still remember it that means it must have been less than 35 years ago or so, maybe 30.
