Other than spending thousands of dollars on ultra high-end devices are there any cheap, simple boxes that do it all? DV, Almost TrueHD, Lossless audio, etc…?

I love the convenience and interface of the Apple TV but know it’s hamstrung with some features. I think the Shield does more but hasn’t been updated in ages and is possibly never getting a new model. But is there anything else out there?

Or is there some new thing on the horizon that will do it all?
