Following on from a recent post about WiFi names (SSIDs)… you should know about wardriving, also called access point mapping, which is the act of locating and (potentially) exploiting WLANs and other wireless networks usually while driving, hence the name!

There are services, such as WiGLE, that allows users to upload discovered APs and metadata along with GPS location, and over time that builds a pretty reliable map of devices by name. The mac address (BSSID) is also logged, which can be looked up to find the likely manufacturer.

As users here that often post about their network equipment, be cautious about giving out your exact SSID as it can be quite easy to find potential evidence of your location if your SSID is sufficiently unique.
