Piracy started as the practice of stealing cargo from others to self-benefit and re-selling, particularly at sea. They didn’t copy stuff and tried to pass it like original. Pirates didn’t for example make a replica of a sarcophagus and pass it by real, they stealed the real thing, and whoever buy from them was getting the real deal, albeit from a different seller (there was no counterfit on og piracy).
