It’s a recurring issue and has been for weeks now. The most recent one I noticed
was this comment [https://aussie.zone/comment/8448537], which despite being
tagged 4 days ago, only just recently appeared in my inbox. A while ago it was
only 2 days, but the problem seems to be getting worse and worse. In a meta post
on my instance, an admin noted that they don’t believe it’s anything they can
resolve on their end [https://aussie.zone/post/8463851], so I’m posting here on
the assumption that it must be a LW issue.
Posted a query in the LW support channel to see if anyone there has any idea.
Interestingly, I’ve noticed that in some cases a single thread will have some comments which do show up, and others which don’t, from LW users. In this thread you can see some comments from LW users which I saw and even replied to on the same day, alongside one that didn’t show up for 8 days.
aussie.zone is just not keeping up with the amount of activities generated on lemmy.world.
it’s not going lower than a week anymore without actively doing something to improve this situation, and once a week all activities older than a week that haven’t been received from LW yet will be discarded on LWs end.
this is most likely mostly caused by latency from LW (finland) to aussie.zone, as lemmy only sends one activity at a time, requiring a round trip across the world for every single activity activity before sending the next one.
there are a couple things that can cause comments to show up on aussie.zone before they would regularly federate, such as someone searching the post/comment url on aussie.zone. some clients will do this automatically if you click a link to a post/comment from another instance.

Makes it very perplexing.
