Do you remove non plastic elements I.e. tape from paper and cartons before recycling them?

I do and I find it annoying when people don’t. It cannot be recycled if you don’t (AFAIK) so they burn it instead. Same goes for people who throw away soiled paper such as pizza boxes. They’re contaminated and cannot be recycled (AFAIK)! So, what do you do?
