Julian Onderdonk (1882-1922) was born into a painting family, and received instruction under fellow Texan Verner Moore White [https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verner_Moore_White]. He later studied in New York with impressionist William Merritt Chase [https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Merritt_Chase]. Upon returning to Texas he paintined many landscapes near his home of San Antonio. He died of appendicitis aged 40.
