Just a head’s up for everyone, in a month we’ll be having this years (and 2nd annual) Canvas! If you don’t know: It’s the Fediverse’s version of Reddit’s ‘Place’ (the community pixel-art thing!)

If you all wanna try and make some little art piece and are good at pixel art I’d be down, otherwise lemmy.zip does their own one which we could contribute to. Either way I’ll update as we get closer.

turns out I did my math wrong, so it’s a little less than 30 days

✨ this year’s event also supports the entire fediverse not just Lemmy!

(you have to be able to make/receive text posts, like mastodon, lemmy, pixelfed, etc) (peertube accounts will not work)

you can get update announcements on other fedi platforms with @canvas@fediverse.events link

chat about Canvas on Matrix or Discord (they’re bridged)

I wasn’t sure how big people would want to go, or if there’d be much interest, but I just spent way longer than I was planning making these.

    Here they are 1:1

And here they are zoomed in with a grid.

      I love em! Great job.

With our active numbers (and I’m sure some of the lurkers will join in), plus how Canvas gives you a bit of an easier time to place pixels than Place does (iirc you can store up to 5 pixels to build at a time, on a refresh timer) we got a good chance of being able to do that bigger design with some planning. If it gets fucked and we can’t recover, the smaller one is great to fit in somewhere. and maintain as well.

Cool. I never did a group thing on Canvas or r/Place, but it should be fun. I can mess around with the grid to make it easier to follow.
