Besides the size difference, which one would you choose for OpenRGB on Arch Linux? Had a Keychron K8 Pro that I didn’t get to work. Now it died, so have to replace it. Price wise they’re 50 for the Alienware (new) and 75 for the Razer (open box, as new). Please help me decide. Thanks!
Update if anyone finds this thread later: I went with the Razer BlackWidow V3 and also got a Basilisk V3 to match it and they work very well with OpenRGB, I would definitely recommend them! I’m slightly annoyed by the green switches on the keyboard (sound and the feeling when typing) but that’s of course unrelated.
Thanks I ordered the Razer and also a Basilisk V3 mouse to go along with it, replacing a Logitech 203.
I wouldn’t get either. If you are going to use Arch, you should be an adult. RGB is for children.
In all seriousness, you don’t spend most of your time looking at your keyboard, you spend most of your time touching it. If you haven’t already, get a keyswitch tester so you know what switch feels the best to you.
Neither. The Wooting Two is the best keyboard!
I would recommend the Razer. Razer devices are some of the best supported in OpenRGB as they all use one of a few different protocols and we have extensively tested all of them. If it isn’t already supported it should be easy to add. I personally have no experience with the Alienware keyboard but have plenty of Razer devices.
If I may ask you another question regarding support: I have a Corsair Capellix H115i cooler, 2x ML140 RGB PWM fans and 4x LL120 RGB PWM fans. They are all connected to the commander core that came with the pump. OpenRGB detects the commander core and for a brief moment I was able to control three of the smaller fans (another one the same model not however) but now I can’t control anything. Are these devices not supported or is there something I can do to make it work?
I’m not familiar with the Commander Core specifically, but did you set the zone sizes properly? You need to tell ARGB controllers how many LEDs are attached to each channel in order for them to work. You can edit the size by selecting the Zone in the Zone box and clicking Edit.
I’ve used this link to set the sizes to 16 and 4, respectively. Hmm. Anything else I might try?
I’m not sure if another driver could be overriding it. There is a corsair_cpro driver in Linux that prevents OpenRGB from working with a Commander Pro but I don’t know about Commander Core. Does it even get detected? Tried running OpenRGB as root?
Yes it gets detected fine including all six RGB slots :)
My 2¢: My Razer V3 Pro (wireless) has very good RGB support on Linux compared to other brands. My volume knob never worked correctly and it is apparently a common issue. Spraying some electronics cleaner in there now and then can fix it, but it randomly changes volume levels and barely responds when actually rotated. A few keys also have sporadic issues with double inputs. Overall, can’t recommend.
I’m not a Razer hater, I’ve used their mice for years without issue; but this keyboard I would not replace with another Razer.
