My wife and I are thinking of going to CR this winter, but we have a few other potential destinations on our shortlist. Talk me out of going to Costa Rica!

I refuse. CR was the best vacation I’ve ever been on. If you like nature in any way, you’ll have an amazing time!

Lurking (well, no longer) for the same reason. That’s our currently chosen retirement destination but may have to move up the timetable depending on how things go in November. No way am I letting my wife live and my daughter grow up in A Handmaid’s Tale.

I actually leave for CR in about 16 hours. Lived there for 10 years when I was 3 till 13. I understand that the country is not the same as when I last lived there. Much more advanced, but also less safe than it once was. Places that I was able to just stroll around as a young white kid are no longer as safe, and you should be careful in your planning to avoid certain areas, or at least keep minimal $ on you and your passport in a safe location.

This is very good to know, thank you. Any suggestions on safer vs. unsafe areas?

The one that I’ve heard from friends that live there is Samara. Lots of smash-n-grabs out of cars, break ins, etc.

Bugs in the jungle are terrifyingly big and are virtually everywhere at night, even when you don’t see any…
