I didn’t realize this was the season finale before watching and was mostly confused that was it after tonight’s episode. Seems like they started more loose ends in that one episode, maybe in hope of another season, but it felt like it could have used an episode or two more to set that up better. Spoilers below:

The Acolyte - Episode 8 Season Finale Discussion Spoilers
  • I kept expecting the Green Jedi woman to ultimately be behind the destruction of the witches fortress. It still doesn’t make sense that the stone structure could sustain so much damage from some paper burning. Maybe bad editing or something in the previous episodes, but seems like there’s still a side of a story being withheld.
  • Reveal of Yoda (or yaddle before growing hair!) and who I assume is Plagueis was underwhelming. Either could have been omitted without issue. If they were going for fan service, focus on one. If it is Plagueis, does the timeline even make sense??
  • Honestly, I wish there were more episodes with the Lesbian Witch Cult which weren’t all flashbacks. That conflict with the Jedi was interesting (for the two days it happened in universe) and could have explored more of that side of the force before it was killed off. I guess I’m in the minority based on the backlash that received.
  • Kung fu and lightsaber battles were pretty good. Is this the first time in live action a jedi has turned off a lightsaber mid fight? I think out of everything, the choreography was the strongest aspect of the series.

What’d everyone else think?

I did not dislike the show, but I’m confused who it was for. My wife is not as deep into Star wars as I am and thought it was boring and could not connect with the sisters at all. I thought a lot of the lore stuff was interesting, but everything I’m seeing online and on YouTube is complaining that the lore does not match their expectations from Legends. I mean Legends doesn’t count, but you can’t pitch a show for people who are super into deep Star wars lore and not figure that you have to be consistent with legends or else you’re going to make them mad. I guess I’m just not sure who this show was for?

      Despite the advertising,

the show wasn’t made for any particular audience or demographic. It was made to make Disney money.

I’ve yet to see a lore complaint that has any actual merit to it. They incorporated a bunch of shit from legends, so anyone deep into the lore that went in with an open mind probably enjoyed it, I certainly did. The only thing that was hard retconned was Mundi’s age, and who honestly cares about that beyond the memes?

It just goes to show how powerful the nonsense outrage machine is online.

I’ve seen so much “that’s not what a sith would do” and “that’s nothing like a true Jedi” complaining

Yeah, a lot of people are missing the entire point for the show. We already see the Jedi in the prequels ‘not acting like true Jedi’. Now we’re seeing how they got there, how a group of ‘good’ and well meaning people can corrupt themselves. This is a Jedi order that made mistakes and has had their perfect image shattered by the nihil conflict. They’re so afraid of losing face that now they’re trying to hide mistakes and isolate themselves, which of course only serves to further erode public trust when those mistakes come to light.

I’ve been arguing with idiots on YouTube insisting Ki Adi Mundi being in the show breaks canon. Their references are tops cards and misunderstanding dialogue from the prequels.
