Robert Downey Jr stunned fans as the Iron Man star removed a mask during the San Diego Comic-Con Hall H panel to reveal that he will play Doctor Doom, one of Marvel’s biggest villains, in the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday.

The panel on Saturday was flooded with hooded figures wearing masks of the comic book villain known for his sorcery and science when Downey Jr revealed his face. “I like playing complicated characters,” he said as fans began to chant his name.

He was perfectly cast for Tony Stark, but he is not a good fit for Victor.

Agreed. This multiverse thing is killing their creativity. Would have been better to bring RDJ back as Tony from an alternate multiverse. Have the Avengers go get another Tony to solve a problem, and they end up with the superior iron man who is a complete narcissist and evil capitalist who never gained any humanity and stayed selfish. Picture pre iron man 1 Tony with the modern armor and power.

Supposedly they’re using a comic that has stark and doom switch bodies. Doom went on to use Starks fortune, and Stark lost his memory, believing himself to actually be Victor, and ends up turning Dooms country into one of the best on the planet.

Not sure how that’s going to work with Stark being dead though.

Doom is a pretty complex character and, ignoring his time as Stark, he can do the role justice.

On my shortlist of Doom candidates: Cavil, Josh Holloway, Gabriel Macht, Mad Mikkelson, Javiar Bardem, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Josh Brolin, Anthony Starr, and Jeffrey Dead Morgan. Any of them could do a great job with Doom.
