Right now I’m using an LG CX as my monitor and it happens to come with nice speakers (in that a TV will have the best speakers on the desk given no other options)… I’ve never had monitor speakers, so I was wondering – in this scenario, is it worth it to get a PreSonus Eris?
Hi! Thanks for posting.
TL;DR Yes! Monitor speakers will be a huge step up. Never tried the PreSonus Eris range. Shop around a bit first to look at alternatives.
Going from built-in TV speakers to a dedicated system will be a huge improvement almost no matter what you get. Now the fact you are looking at monitor speakers in particular PreSonus’s range tells me you are looking for something for mixing/mastering.
With that in mind, I’ve never tried the PreSonus Eris range so I can’t comment on their quality. However, for a huge leap up (not in price), I would recommend KRK classic 5s or a pair of Focal Alpha 50s as a nicer starter to you audio production journey.
Shop around a bit. There are some really good guides out their for finding the correct studio monitors for you. Hope that helps!
Active Studio monitors are a huge step up indeed. However an even bigger uphrade would be a power amp with bookshelf speakers of your choice. There are some really cool desktop poweramps like the project amp box…
I use LS50W2s for my main media center and TV since two years ago and am very happy with the result. Shortest path to high quality audio. I understand there are several other options these days
The name “monitor” in this case means Studio Monitor for recording and mixing music. Nothing to do with a TV or computer monitor.
You should be looking at a more friendly home audio option like something from Edifier, Fluance, Vanatoo, HiVi-Swans, etc. Something with an optical input since that is likely the best quality and simplest non-HDMI audio output option on your TV
