Myne: …and Batman comes and catches the thief with his wonderful gadgets!
Ferdinand (rubbing his chin): So that’s the fiction you propose.
Myne: That’s right! What do you think?
Ferdinand: I have several issues with your story. First, why couldn’t he kill them and stop them from committing more crimes?
Myne: Well, you see, his morality -
Ferdinand: Are you telling me it’s more important to save the life of a criminal than the people affected by his crimes?
Myne: Well, I -
Ferdinand: Furthermore, this would never succeed in Ehrenfest. There’s a reason why we have city walls and guards at the gates. Not to mention, any criminal, after being identified, would be executed by the Lord at once. No need to catch him, it can simply be done with magic.
Myne: Uh…
Ferdinand: And why couldn’t the guards catch the thief? With the simple use of a magic tool, they could…
Myne: Argh, you don’t let people have any fun!
Ferdinand: Speaking of fun, how are your harspiel lessons doing?
Myne: …never mind.
I love it.
I also love the way the Cinderella incident encapsulates all that she doesn’t know about her new world… and all that Ferdinand doesn’t know either. :-)
