This reminds me of a funny incident. So back when I was like 6-7, we had a Windows XP PC with the big box monitor and all that. And of course, it had Internet Explorer on it.

Now the entire system was veeeeery slow. Whenever the system used to boot up, we would have to let it “idle” for a few minutes before we could use it. One fine day, I didn’t feel like letting it idle. So I bravely double clicked on Internet Explorer. Nothing happened. Okay, it mustn’t have realized that I double clicked. Fine. I double clicked again. Nope. Nothing. I did it again. Okaaay fine, I should’ve let it idle. So I waited for a minute and double clicked again. Nope, nothing. Now I had started to get pissed. So I started double clicking it with increasing frequency.

Finally, I was so pissed that I just spammed double clicks for a whole minute lmao. I think my mum heard the continuos double clicks to see what exactly I was doing. After she understood what I was up to, she was annoyed with the fact that I wasn’t being patient. So she snatched the mouse away from me and sat in front of the PC.

MIRACULOUSLY one window of Internet Explorer opened. But waaaaaait. It didn’t stop there. Another window opened. Then another. Then another. Turns out, Windows HAD registered my need for a new IE window. It’s just that it needed time to load it up. Oof. Now Windows was spamming US with IE browser windows.

My mum sighed, and started closing the windows one by one. This clearly wasn’t her first rodeo looks like. But the windows kept coming. Also, for some reason, she was weary of making the computer gods angry. That’s why, she was closing the windows as slooooowly and softly as possible.

Ok, so by now the solution (besides getting a better, newer computer) looks kinda clear. Just restart the system. Buuuut we didn’t think of this then. So now, she just sat there, closing windows for FIFTEEN MINUTES STRAIGHT. It was the digital equivalent of 6yo me throwing up and her cleaning it up lmao.

Anyway, the computer gods finally relented and all windows were closed. Thank fuck we have better tech today lol.

      Thanks for sharing this story.

Did XP not have a “right-click, close all windows” option? If not, I’m pretty sure it had a task manager where all IE processes could have been killed at once :)

No idea lmao. We were incredibly tech illiterate then. I’m pretty sure that we didn’t even know that there was something called “task manager” lol
