TBF the game is 15 years old, and it’s already been said more than once that the engine is old but too deeply engrained to alter. The fact it’s made it this long is a pretty impressive feat.
Well said. And it’s been an enjoyable journey throughout.
Some of the stories have been lackluster here and there, but that in itself is Star Trek. Not every show/game/story is going to be for everyone, yet beautifully all are welcome as trekkers/trekkies.

STO was in this mode for years and still goes on. The problem is MMOs generally is not the darlings anymore. I think STO will go on for while in this mode, but I do not have high hopes for STO2.
The game will probably soldier on for a significant period of time.
Agreed, but I would adjust that wording (whether “solidering”, “limping”, or “on life support”) based on how the first DECA content feels.
It will probably be in a “zombie” state, not unlike that of Champions Online (as I understand it, I don’t really play that game).
Feels like it has been since 2020, if not a little before, IMO.
We’re closer to STO’s end than its beginning.
STO 2 when? 😛
Joking aside, we really are near its end. I wish that 3D model company hadn’t turned and run after taking orders (yes, they refunded eventually); I’d have liked to have some of my ships as models to remember STO.
I think the Terran arc of 2021-2023 was high-quality, even though I didn’t find it as engaging as the Klingon Civil War had been. We’ve already talked about the latest arc being relatively underwhelming, but at the same time, I think the episodes have been well-made, and I assume they were done under the watchful eyes of the Cryptic Old Guard.
Next year will truly tell the tale of what DECA is going to do.
The one thing that gives me any hope at all is that Star Trek is pretty popular in Germany…but with everything else that’s going on, it’s still a pretty faint hope.
If I were to make predictions (foolish!), I would say…

Oh, I agree - the game has had a very good run.

Fair point! I think you’re spot on with the quality of the episodes (as game pieces) themselves. Story, meh, but game design/graphics, wow!
We’ll see what happens. As the famous trombone player said, “Fate protects fools, little children, and ships named Enterprise.”
