October 23, 2024. Hello Everyone!
Our last update saw players enjoying a nice chilled time, fishing in No Man’s Sky. Our next update couldn’t be more different! As we approach Halloween, we are embracing the spookier side of the No Man’s Sky Universe, drawing upon threads first established way back in Atlas Rises, when ancient portals began to open and the boundaries between realities first began to crumble…
Today, we are announcing expedition sixteen: The Cursed – where players will fight to keep a grip on reality while haunted by visions and voices from another dimension.
The Cursed takes place in a sort of twilight realm, straddling the boundary between one reality and the next.
Travellers will not have access to hyperdrive technology, meaning no warping between star systems. Instead, interstellar travel can only take place via the ancient portal network.
Haunting voices, leaking through from another dimension, will provide guidance, information, strange blueprints… and mystery. It is up to you to decide who these voices belong to, where they are coming from, and if they are to be trusted.
I think I’m finally going to buy this game. It’s still single player right? I don’t have to rely on other players to complete missions?
It’s very much a single player game. You and your buddies can join each other and play around. These time limited events called expeditions you’re likely to see some other players just because the events allow players to be in the right place (very condensed) at the right time (over the course of two months).
If you don’t even want to see people turn multiplayer off and the only evidence you’ll see is planet/flora/fauna discovered by player.
As for the normal game we all share the same universe with most of the population (my self included) in the first galaxy but it’s so huge you’re super (and I can not emphasize this enough) SUPER SUPER unlikely to run into another player
Because it’s one universe there’s not a my world your world like Minecraft for example, so if you join your friend, you can still fast travel to your base (there’s a portal fast travel system between bases discovered/landed space stations
Also there’s crossplay!
Oh a quality of life tip, you only need to build a base computer (item that lets you claim the build area) to teleport back, not the portal, the portal only allows you to travel from the base
The amount of bases with nothing in them becuase I’ve been meaning to come back to it later and build
If you like text based story (no spoken dialogue) that how nms is delivered
There’s a few main stories and if i remember right the stories themselves don’t overlap but they do overlap in kind of a big picture way. Hard to describe it without spoilers
Some criticism tho is after 20-30 planets you start to see some repetition but the last update worlds part 1, added some stuff like actual floating islands new animals and better terrain generation but it doesn’t bother me too much
This kinda turned into a ramble but hopefully this helps
And here’s the NMS website
Is it possible to replay expeditions after the time limit ends?
They redo the expeditions they ran this year at the end of the year
You can redo or give yourself just the rewards with mods if your on pc
This is amazing info thank you!
I will be willing to make another info dump that is probably coherent should you need it
No. This was plenty. Thank you. The NMS community seems pretty great just from reading everyones responses here.
Yeah we’re generally chill
If you do the expedition with multiplayer on, be sure to turn off your PvP as there’s the occasional player who wants to nuke you from orbit but those are pretty rare
There are multiplayer components, but nothing will stop you from being able to do anything in the game as a single player
Awesome 👍
You can play entirely solo if you want, and even turn off networking if you don’t want to see other people at all. Mostly you just see other players running around doing their own thing. There’s no competitive or mandatory co-op things that I’ve seen.
The game is also having one of it’s bigger sales at the moment (for Steam/PC), so it’s a good time to jump in.
Or you can find it slightly cheaper on sites like CDKeys.com: https://www.cdkeys.com/no-mans-sky-pc-steam-cd-key
right.
Some Nexus missions are targeted to groups, which makes them tedious to do alone, just for the sheer amount of things to kill/retrieve etc
Aside from that - which is honestly a small optional part of the game - you can disable the multiplayer from the Network options and never think about it
So good to hear. Love single player offline games.
