As per the title, I am having a pretty consistent issue with my 12900k always running WAY too high even when idle. I have applied a -.035V offset, which is the lowest I can get it and keep it stable for games. I have even gone into XTU to underclock the hottest cores to help alleviate the heat. I genuinely have no idea what to do. I have reseated the CPU cooler many times. I have switched thermal pastes to KPX instead of the stock Corsair paste that is defaulted on the CPU block. I water cool for quiet operation because I don’t always like wearing headphones if I am not in a call but Jesus does this thing just start screaming sometimes. Any help would be appreciated.
My entire system is custom loop water cooled with Corsair’s hydro X line of WC parts which I never had an issue with before.
Specs as follows:
ASUS (boo I know) ROG STRIX Z790A gaming wifi II
12900k all stock except “sync all cores” in bios. -.035v. And 2 cores under clocked for heat issues.
Corsair Dominator Titanium 64gb @ 5200MHZ
3080Ti FE with Corsair water block
iCUE Link XC7 CPU water block (yes it is oriented correctly)
EDIT: after a LOT of digging in forums it just so happens that the XC7 RGB Elite CPU water block seems to have a 1 in 4 chance of just being genuine garbage. I am buying a cheap-ish ThermalTake water block just to make absolutely sure that it is the XC7 just being, well, bad…
