🧭VPN does not offer a system-wide kill switch if you download it from their website!:

On macOS, 🧭VPN offers two versions: one you download directly from their website (the sideload version) and another from the Mac App Store.

The Mac App Store version is limited in features due to Apple’s restrictions, while the sideload version from 🧭VPN’s website offers more advanced features like Threat Protection Pro and the ability to pause the connection. But there’s a catch: it doesn’t include a system-wide kill switch!

Meanwhile, the Mac App Store version—despite being stripped of many features—does include a system-wide kill switch. So how does it make sense that the version downloaded directly from their website, which offers more features, doesn’t even have a kill switch?

Here’s a breakdown based on what their support said:

🧭VPN (Downloaded from their website):

  • Threat Protection Pro: ✅ Includes anti-malware, advanced browsing protection, ad and tracker blocker
  • Pause feature (including a timed pause): ✅
  • System-wide kill switch + advanced kill switch: ❌ Only offers app-level kill switch, which terminates specified apps if the VPN connection drops, preventing unprotected traffic.

🧭VPN (Downloaded from the Mac App Store):

  • Threat Protection Pro: ❌ Only offers DNS filtering
  • Pause feature: ❌
  • System-wide kill switch + advanced kill switch: ✅

Why on earth does the version downloaded from their website, which is the one most people choose and isn’t restricted by Apple, lack the system-wide kill switch and advanced kill switch?!

I asked them and all they could say was:
