Hi,
Both my motherboard manufacturer (Gigabyte Aorus Z790 Elite AX) and Intel recommend using the default performance settings, which set the internal Vcore to 1.33V. During benchmarks, it can spike as high as 1.500V.
At this point, any overclocking attempt beyond raising the turbo boost from 5.1GHz to 5.4GHz fails due to thermal throttling.
I’m using a dual-tower cooler with two large Noctua fans. While it’s not top-tier cooling, it’s still fairly decent.
However, I can run Gigabyte’s settings, where the Vcore averages around 1.2V during benchmarks (according to HWInfo64). The downside is that performance on these settings is noticeably lower than Intel’s default configuration and barely matches an unstable overclock.
Some people have suggested starting overclocking or undervolting from Intel’s default performance settings, but there seems to be no room for meaningful improvement or tweaking.
Am I missing something? Can any Intel 13th or 14th-gen users offer advice?
Thanks so much!
