Hey,

After wrestling two days with configuration Apache and PHP and Virtmanager on Arch-based distributions, I installed Ubuntu 24.10 and instantly noticed that things have improved from the last time I tried it. Now, the App Center can update everything without hanging. Configuring Apache and PHP takes a few minutes. So far, so good. :)

I then installed Dash to Panel, my must-have Gnome extension but when the computer wakes up from sleep or suspend, I see that both docks are showing (overlaid at the bottom) although I have disabled the default dock. Every time the PC wakes up, the default panel extension defaults back to on.

A little earlier, I learned that the default dock can be removed with:

sudo apt remove gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock

Can some more experienced Ubuntu users chime in an tell me if this is a good idea or, not? For the record, since this is a test install, I removed it and it’s OK but in case it’s not, I’d rather know that now before I start working on the next project.

Thank you! :)
