Hey, I wanted to see what kind of information I could get from all you DIY experts.

I want to replace the floor in my attic (house built in 1890). The attic is finished, and the floor that got put down is some kind of Walmart brand Pergo (not really, but it really sucks). I am sure the floor underneath is a total mess because you can feel it underneath the flex of this laminate junk.

I want to put in prefinished hardwood because my son’s room is up there and my office and I’d eventually like to put in a game room.

Question. I don’t want to remove the subfloor because of reasons. I guess I could and replace it with tongue and groove plywood, but that seems to be to be a ton of work. I know this is probably the best way. I of course want to DIY the job, and this might not be something I want to tackle and I want to spend less. Can I use some kind of pourable floor leveler, and what are the thoughts on that. I want to start by making a family project our of removing all the “Pergo” and then seeing what’s underneath.

What are your thoughts on floor leveler? Is it easy?

Thanks for your help!
