Hey everyone,

I’m wiring my house and need some advice to make sure I’m on the right track. Here’s my plan:

1.House Layout: • My house has two floors. • I plan to place the router upstairs, near the ceiling in the corridor, away from other electronics. • A pure copper cable will run downstairs to the storage room, where I’ll have a 5-port PoE switch.

  1. Device Connections: • From the PoE switch, I’ll connect devices like a Reolink PoE doorbell, TV, a wired Wi-Fi disk, and other devices.
  2. Questions About Cables: • Would it be okay to use outdoor UV-resistant copper cable for both indoor and outdoor runs? • My thinking is this would save the hassle of buying separate cables for indoor and outdoor use. • I plan to use non-CCA cables for better quality and performance.
  3. Cable Termination: • Would you recommend using keystone jacks at both ends and patching with short RJ45 cables? • Or would crimping the ends be a better option?

• Note: The cable won’t go inside walls but will be neatly secured along the wall skirts.

  1. PoE Switch Suggestions: • I’m looking for a reliable 5-port PoE switch for home use. • It should be compact, energy-efficient, and good for connecting devices like doorbells, cameras, and other low-power devices. • Any recommendations for brands or specific models would be awesome!

I’d appreciate any input on the following: • Is my setup sound, or are there any improvements you’d suggest? • Is UV-resistant cable overkill indoors, or is it fine for consistency? • Punch-down termination vs. crimping—what would you recommend for reliability and ease of maintenance? • Any favorite PoE switches that would work well for a setup like this?

Thanks in advance for your advice!
